Recliner Recommendations [December]

It’s December. 2016 is coming to a close. Here are some recommendations for you. I hope you will share these with a friend.

Audiobook: Start with Why – Simon Sinek

I recently finished Sinek’s book, Start with Why. The author does a fascinating job describing how our fast paced technological culture has stripped us of perseverance. We are so conditioned for instant results that we are unable to push through the tough days into victory. He credits some of this to not clearly articulating our why.

Podcast: Robcast – Rob Bell

Rob Bell interviews some of the most unique philanthropists of our day. His podcast has brought to light people, places, and movements that most of us are unaware. Bell delves into the good the Church is doing around the world, but he goes beyond the Rick Warrens and Andy Stanleys. Check it out and hear what God is doing around the nation and the world.

Watching: The Flash (CW)

Television is my least favorite hobby. However, sometimes I find a show that intrigues me. My teenage daughter introduced me to this gem. Kudos to the CW on this modern superhero creation. A fun, fast-paced modern depiction of a classic superhero. Check it out!

Reading: Jesus Calling – Sarah Young

Someone introduced me to this devotional a few months ago. It is written from God’s perspective; as if Jesus were talking to you. It is an anointed devotional. If you enjoy Chamber’s, My Utmost for His Highest, then you might want to explore this one too.

Sermon Series: Heroines of Advent

During the Advent season, we are exploring the women in Jesus’ lineage and the Christmas story. You can listen to the podcasts by clicking the link above.

Scripture I’m pondering:

“People from every nation came to consult [Solomon] and hear the wisdom God had given him”. 1 Kings 10:24

2017 is only a few weeks away. I hope you will consider some of these and add them to your list for the new year. Wake up, sleepy head. It’s a new day!
