Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. ~ Romans 12:1
In WWII, Japanese fighter pilots bombed Pearl Harbor in a very distinct way. They crashed their planes into aircraft carriers causing incredible loss of lives, ships, and ammunition. And they called themselves Kamikaze pilots. We called them Suicide Bombers.
Kamikaze is a Japanese word that means “Divine Wind” or “God Wind”. They believed they were making a sacrifice for their country and their gods. It was a divine mission.
Sacrificing oneself for one’s Divine Being is not a new thing. People having been making human sacrifices since the earliest civilizations. But when Jesus came along He turned the tables. Instead of man sacrificing himself for God; God sacrificed Himself for mankind. It was a radical paradigm shift.
Today Christians talk about dying for God. But I think dying for God may not be as difficult as living for Him. Some days I want an evacuation plan from God that will get me out of here. But He has something else in mind. God has a transformation plan. And He is asking if I am willing to live for Him.
St Paul’s letter to the Romans charges them to “offer themselves as living sacrifices”. Living, not dying sacrifices. We are called to LIVE for God. He has come to give us life, and give it abundantly. He has called us to embrace this world, settle down, build house, plant gardens, and raise our families. God wants to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth and He wants to initiate through us.
Today, make a choice to live for God. Embrace the freedom He has given to you. Embrace life and embrace it abundantly.
