A Sabbath Rest
Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. 4 One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. 5 They will speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works. 6 They will tell of the power of your awesome works, and I will proclaim your great deeds. ~ Psalm 145:3-6
In our day to day, run of the mill, very ordinary life, we often miss the splendor of the Lord. The psalmist says he will meditate on God’s awesome works. But in our ordinary day, there is not much meditating going on. It is easy to get caught up and forget. So God commands us to take a Sabbath rest.
He commands us to TAKE a Sabbath rest. We must take it because it will not simply come to us. Satan has his own way of keeping us busy enough. He keeps us just busy enough that we do not meditate on God’s awesome deeds, and when we sit down to meditate, we are often too exhausted to do anything but sleep.
We have had a wonderful Sabbath Rest. We have witness some of the greatest works of God’s hand. We have spent time as a family. We have spent time with extended family. We have been up at 10,000 feet above sea level and we have been to the sea. And God has been at every place in between. It is true. You cannot run from God! Everywhere you go, He is there. Waiting. And it is good to tell the next generation that He is always there!
