“Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song” ~ Psalm 149:1
The psalmist declares to sing a new song. A new song as opposed to an old song. I don’t believe the psalmist is intending to start a worship war. He is not telling the people it is time for a new hymnal. But, perhaps they have been singing the same praises for too long. It may be they continue to praise God for the things He has done…long ago.
Praising God is always a good thing. Recently I had the opportunity to share my testimony of how I came to faith in Jesus Christ. It was good to praise God and remember what He has done in my life. It was an old song.
I have also been able to give testimony to new things God is doing in my life. These are new songs. Believers in Christ should find themselves singing new songs of praise to God. The process of maturing, growing up in Christ, should take a life time. And we should find ourselves singing new songs of praise of the things He is doing.
So we might ask ourselves if we have been introduced to any new songs of praise lately? Do we find God doing new things in us and through us? Are we able to testify to new works of grace or are we still clinging to the songs of old?
Lent is approaching in a week. It is a good time to ask God to do a new work. It is a good time to ask God to give you a new song to sing.
Keep fighting the good fight of faith!
