Values…”values, Sociology . the ideals, customs, institutions, etc.,
of a society toward which the people of the group have an affective regard”.
“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1Peter 4:8-9
Every Church body has a set of values. These are inherent to the group. They can be spoken or unspoken, but they are there. Values are different from on Church body to the next. It is not that one set of values is better or worse; right or wrong. They are simply different.
Values are also different from doctrinal beliefs. They are the ideals & customs that affect the group. They are those ideals that, when push comes to shove, simply will not be compromised.
PLCC is a fairly new congregation, and we are still in the early stages of forming our values. But they have already begun to emerge. The highest value that we have as a Body is the value of inclusiveness. It is at the heart of what we do. It does not mean that we neglect other values. And it does not mean that “anything goes”. But we desire for everyone at PLCC to have a place to belong. And if you do not have a place, we will create one for you.
I hope you will think about this value of “inclusiveness” over the next several weeks. See how we can strive to make it more obvious that it is the highest value. Think about how we do it well and how we could improve. We will discuss our other values over the next few months. In the meantime, there is a place for you at Plumb Line Community Church!
