Sword & the Spirit

For the Word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” ~ Hebrews 4:12

The Bible is the Word of God.  Many say it is nothing more than mere words written by men.  But it has been the source of controversy throughout the ages.  Nations have sought to destroy the Book.  It has been burned, shredded, and banned.  Men and women have been killed for reading it and for translating it into other languages.  How can something that is apparently filled with lies and contradictions be the target of such hostility?

It is because it is more than mere words.  The words on the pages are God-breathed.  They were spoken into the hearts of men and women.  And when you read it, you can almost feel the heartbeat of God within its pages.  It truly is a dangerous Book.  The words will pierce your soul and sometimes you are certain it sees right through you.

God’s Spirit is alive within the pages.  His Spirit knows your spirit and longs to speak to your soul.  Give it a try and see what happens…and listen for the voice of God.

  1. Gary & I were just discussing spirit and soul (Heb. 4:12, as quoted) and he referred me to your C.S. Lewis quote from a few days back. “You do not have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.” Joann, I am going to be looking further into this, as I don’t understand the seperation. I know His Spirit resides in me. I am/was a poor soul. Is it the “inner me”, the old man? Hmmm, I am challenged by this. Probably an easy answer, but again, the Word will prove itself to me and I will trust it! LOL, thanks for listening. Blessing dear one. Pam
