Isaiah 28

“So this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone,

a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation;

the one who trusts will never be dismayed.

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line;

…and your covenant with death will be annulled”

Isaiah 28:16-17a, 18a

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of this scripture verse.  The New Testament also identifies Him as the chief cornerstone.  He is the one that makes men stumble and fall.  And He is the One who holds the Church together.

The righteousness of God is the plumb line in our lives, but we have all fallen short of it.  There is no one righteous; no not even one.  So God extended grace, and Christ gave us His righteousness in exchange for our sin.  He nailed our sin to the cross and carried it far from here.

Oh this is good news!  We no longer have to carry that guilt.  We no longer have to feel so bad about the things we have done.  We no longer need to carry the shame of the sins committed against us.  We are free, because the one whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

And this is the message we have been given…freedom in Christ.  We have been given a great honor; the honor of carrying this message into our world.  You have been chosen for this great and glorious task.

I ask you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.  Watch and see what God is about to do.
