All Saints’ Day

The Christian Church has its own calendar.  We track specials days and events and seasons (i.e. Easter, Christmas, Pentecost).  November 1st is All Saints’ Day on the Church calendar.  It is a day when we, as Christians, remember all those who have gone home to be with the Lord in the last year.

More than 50 years ago, the Church began a tradition to honor this day.  On the night before, they would dress up as saints and martyrs and beg for food and candy to give to the poor.  Then the following morning they would all meet for worship and come bearing their gifts they had collected the night before; on Hallowed Eve.

Of course, we in the States know it as Halloween.  Sadly, this night is now in honor of the kingdom of darkness, rather than the Kingdom of Light.

Next Sunday, November 7th, is our “soft launch” Sunday.  We will begin meeting for worship at the YMCA.  In honor of All Saints’ Day, I would like us to bring food for the needy.  We will collect food and deliver it to Redford Interfaith Relief.  It will be a great way to honor His Hallowed Name!

Pray with me:

Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven

Give us this day our daily bread

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
